IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act, 1984 REASONS FOR DECISION
The purpose of this application, made by the Federated Liquor and Allied Industries Employees Union of Australia (Tasmanian Branch) (FLAIEU), was to vary the award in such a way as to correct previous printing errors and omissions and numerical aspects of the award format. Mr Butler, representing the FLAIEU tendered an agreed document reflecting the changes. He pointed out to the Commission that the variations sought had very little affect on the contents of the award. He said the amendments only corrected errors that had occurred in the award over a number of years. Mr Edwards, representing the Tasmanian Chamber of Industries, endorsed the submissions made by Mr Butler and fully supported the document tendered by the FLAIEU. The parties are to be congratulated for taking time out to rectify these small errors which, no doubt, could lead to disputation in the future. This preventative action is far better than waiting until a dispute is probable or pending or even in existence. The amendments sought are, in my view, purely administrative and there is no need for me to consider the question of the Wage Fixation Guidelines. It makes good sense to tidy up these matters and therefore, the award will be varied in accordance with the agreed document tendered by the parties, including their suggested operative date which was 23 April 1986. The order giving effect to this decision is attached.
