TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or award variation

Metals and Engineering Workers Union
(T.4009 of 1992)

METAL AND ENGINEERING INDUSTRY AWARD

COMMISSIONER R J WATLING

27 October 1992

Award variation - Appendix A - Guide to Implementation - insertion of Watchmaker/Clockmaker classification

REASONS FOR DECISION

On 9 June 1992 arising out of application T.3436 of 1991 the Watchmakers Award was rescinded as an award of the Tasmanian Industrial Commission.

During the course of that hearing it was stated that it was the intention of the parties to have the classifications of Watchmaker, Clockmaker and Repairer of Jewellery covered by the new Metal and Engineering Industry Award.

When the new Metal and Engineering Industry Award was established the scope of that award contained the following:

"Making, manufacture, installation, maintenance and repair of jewellery, watches and clocks including cases."

This application (T.4009 of 1992) was lodged by the Metals and Engineering Workers Union (the union) for the purpose of varying the Appendix attached to the Meals and Engineering Industry Award to include the classification of Watchmaker and/or Clockmaker which was inadvertently omitted from the draft orders presented by the union during the course of the making of that award.

This consent application meets with the approval of the Commission and the award will be varied in the manner requested by the parties.

The order giving effect to this decision is attached and will be operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 26 October 1992.
