Traineeship

REASONS FOR DECISION

This matter concerns an application by the Australian Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union - Tasmanian Branch, to vary the Restaurant Keepers Award by making provision for the employment of trainees.

The categories concerned are:

(a) Hospitality Trainee

(b) Trainee Clerk

(c) Food Preparation and Service Trainee

The present application has been the subject of considerable consultation and negotiation and has involved union, employer and training authorities.

Because the matter is one of consent and is designed to enhance the acquisition of skills available to potential job seekers and assist the industry and is therefore in the public interest, the application is granted.

The award will therefore be varied in a manner consistent with the application.

Operative Date

This variation shall take effect from the first full pay period to commence on or after 11 December 1992.
