TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or award variation

Federated Clerks Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch
(T.4179 of 1992)

METAL AND ENGINEERING INDUSTRY AWARD

COMMISSIONER R J WATLING

22 February 1993

Wage rates - State Wage Case Nov 1989 - Second minimum rates adjustment - clerical classifications - consent application - granted - ffpp 1 March 1993

REASONS FOR DECISION

This application was lodged by the Federated Clerks Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch (the union) for the purpose of varying certain classifications in the Metal and Engineering Industry Award to reflect the second minimum rates adjustment.

As that award has an integrated structure, Mrs Dowd for the union, tendered an exhibit (D1) showing the wage group levels to be varied by the application. They are as follows:

Wage Group Level Classification Title

Relativity

Level 11 Administrative Officer Level 7

120%

Level 10 Administrative Officer Level 6

115%

Level 9 Administrative Officer Level 5

110%

Level 8 Clerical Officer Level 4

105%

Level 7 Clerical Officer Level 3

100%

Level 6 Clerical Officer Level 2

95%

Level 4 Clerical Assistant Level 1

90%

Level 1 Clerk Adult Entry Point

78%

When the award was initially made the parties agreed that the minimum rates adjustments for clerical employees would be phased in over thirty six months at intervals of nine months apart.

This, the second minimum rates adjustment, which is a consent application, is endorsed by the Commission as it is in keeping with the agreed agenda for the award and conforms with the Wage Fixing Principles and the Public Interest requirements of the Act.

The award will be varied in the manner sought by the parties and operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 March 1993.

The Order is attached.
