TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or award variation

Automotive, Metals and Engineering Union
(T.4635 of 1993)

METAL AND ENGINEERING INDUSTRY AWARD

COMMISSIONER R J WATLING

16 November 1993

Award variation - Allowances - Tool Allowance increase - consent matter award varied - ffpp 12 November 1993

REASONS FOR DECISION

This application, lodged by the Automotive, Metals and Engineering Union (AMEU), sought to increase the tool allowance appearing in Clause 8 - Wage Rates, subclause 6 - Tool Allowance contained in the Metal and Engineering Industry Award.

The increase reflects the 6% increase arising out of the State Wage Case of November 1989 and the 2.5 % increase arising out of the State Wage Case of August 1991.

In support of the application, Mr Harding for the AMEU, tendered three exhibits being decisions of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission which varied the Metal Industry Award 1984 being an award of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.

Mr Clues of the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited, whilst supporting the application of the AMEU, expressed some dissatisfaction with the amount of increase in the tool allowance, which, in his view, was bought about by delays on the part of the applicant.

This consent matter is endorsed by the Commission as it conforms with the Wage Fixing Principles and specifically the principle relating to allowances.

The Order giving effect to this decision is attached.
