TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act 1984
The AWU-FIME Amalgamated Union,
SHEARING INDUSTRY AWARD
Award variation - wage rates REASONS FOR DECISION
In this matter the AWU-FIME Amalgamated Union, Tasmania Branch, (AWU-FIME) made application to vary Division A of the Shearing Industry Award to reflect the 24 December 1993 State Wage Case $8.00 arbitrated safety net adjustment; the second minimum rates adjustment; a schedule setting out the minimum rates adjustment; gender neutrality in award language and to ensure rates per kilo are shown in cents and not in dollars.
Mr Cooper appearing for AWU-FIME and Mr Rice for the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Employers Association (TFGA) informed the Commission that the $8.00 and minimum rates adjustments followed variations to the federal Pastoral Industry Award 1986 and reflected an agreement between the AWU-FIME and the TFGA at the State level following agreement between their respective federal organisations.
Having regard to the submissions of the parties I am satisfied that the variations are appropriate and that the other variation matters identified above represent no more than a tidying up of the award. Accordingly the award will be varied in the manner requested, operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 3 January 1995.
The order is attached.
