(T.3929 of 1992)

AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRIES AWARD

COMMISSIONER GOZZI

HOBART, 15 February 1995

Award variation - restructuring and minimum rates adjustment

REASONS FOR DECISION

In this matter the Automotive, Food, Metals and Engineering Union made application to restructure the Automotive Industries Award. Over the period October 1992 to January 1995 the parties have negotiated to a position whereby a consent draft order Exhibit J4 was able to be tendered detailing new definitions and wage rates which will be further adjusted over time by the minimum rates adjustment process.

The parties satisfied the Commission that all of the award restructuring contemplated in Exhibit J4 is in compliance with the appropriate Wage Fixing Principles. The parties also agreed as part of this ongoing review of the award to examine the continuing need for minimum wage provisions and to review the legislative references in the award.

Having regard to the consent of the parties the variations requested to be made are endorsed. The operative dates will be: in respect of definitions and wage group levels 1 to 6 - the first full pay period to commence on or after 22 November 1994; for wage group levels 7 and 8 - the first full pay period to commence on or after 27 January 1995.

The order [correction order] is attached to give effect to this decision.
