TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or variation of award

The Minister administering the Tasmanian State Service Act 1984
(T.5304 of 1994)

TASMANIAN AMBULANCE SERVICE AWARD

COMMISSIONER R K GOZZI

HOBART, 16 January 1995

Award variation- clause 7 - Definitions

REASONS FOR DECISION

In this matter the Minister administering the Tasmanian State Service Act 1984 (the Minister) made application to vary the Tasmanian Ambulance Service Award to give effect to new definitions for Student Ambulance Officer and Ambulance Officer (Certificate of Equivalency)

The variations requested to be made by the Minister with the support of the Health Services Union of Australia, Tasmania No 1 Branch (HSUA) were as a result of the outcome of dispute settling proceedings in matter T5086 of 1994 where it was agreed that the compulsory requirement to undertake patient extrication training would be removed from the award definitions subject to this application. Additionally the parties entered into a Memorandum of Agreement in respect of rescue training arrangements resolved in the dispute hearing referred to above. Mr Bone appearing for the Minister and Mr Nielsen for the HSUA informed the Commission that further application will be made to "tidy up" the award in keeping with understanding achieved in matter T5086 of 1994.

The Commission congratulates the parties on the initiatives taken by them to improve the award and on concluding the Memorandum of Agreement which was tendered as Exhibit B1. In all of the circumstances the award will be varied in the manner requested operative from 1 July 1994. The order will issue in due course.
