TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act 1984 Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS AND SCIENTISTS
Award variation - wage rates - second minimum rates adjustment for professional scientists - operative 4 April 1995 REASONS FOR DECISION This application by the Association of Professional Engineers, Scientists and Managers, Australia (APESMA) sought to vary the Professional Engineers and Scientists (Private Industry) Award to include the second minimum rates adjustment for professional scientists. Mr Pyrke, representing the applicant organisation, explained that the application for the second minimum rates salary adjustment for professional scientists was the second step in a series of four-steps for the phasing in of minimum rates, a process approved in the Commission's decision of 14 March 19941. The first step had been implemented by decision dated 30 September 19942; subsequent steps were to be at six monthly intervals. Mr Pyrke said the application was consistent with the wage fixing principles and did not offend the public interest. He sought an operative date of the first full pay period commencing on or after 4 April 1995. In supporting the application, Mr Edwards, representing the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited (TCCI) said that the application represented an agreed position between the parties. The operative date sought, he said, was in accordance with the decision that steps be phased in at six monthly intervals. Mr Edwards also submitted that the adjustment sought was consistent with the wage fixing principles and public interest considerations. I am satisfied that the variation conforms with the arrangements previously agreed between the parties and that both wage fixing principles and public interest considerations are not offended. The award will be varied in accordance with the draft order submitted. The order is attached, operative from the first full pay period commencing on or after 4 April 1995.
