SOCIAL TRAINERS AWARD

COMMISSIONER R J WATLING

HOBART. 7 November 1995

Award variation - uniform allowance - award varied - operative ffpp 7 November 1995

REASONS FOR DECISION

This application was lodged by The Community & Public Sector Union (State Public Services Federation Tasmania) for the purpose of varying the Social Trainers Award in relation to the uniform allowance.

The applicant sought to increase the allowance by 3.9 percent, being the upward movement in the Consumer Price Index - weighted average of 8 capitals - all groups from the March quarter 1994 up to and including the March quarter 1995.

The Wage Fixing Principles, and in particular Clause 9. Allowances, subclause 9.1.1, states :

Existing allowances which constitute a reimbursement of expenses incurred may be adjusted from time to time where appropriate to reflect the relevant changes in the level of such expenses.

Even though the employer was not represented in this matter, nevertheless I am prepared to increase the allowance in the manner sought by the applicant and it is consistent with the Wage Fixing Principles.

The Order giving effect to this decision is attached and will be operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 7 November 1995.
