TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.29 application for hearing of industrial dispute

Police Association of Tasmania
(T12218 OF 2005)

and

Commissioner of Police

COMMISSIONER T J ABEY

HOBART, 20 December 2005

Industrial dispute -alleged breach of the Police Award - order to lodge application to vary award

REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 8 September 2005 the Commission issued a recommendation concerning the future course of this dispute. The parties accepted this recommendation and have been working towards finding a resolution to the issues. This included a report back to the Commission on 31 October 2005.

[2] I have recently been advised that the parties have, in broad terms, reached an accommodation which, in all likelihood, will resolve the dispute. The Commission has been apprised of the nature of this accommodation. In my view the position reached is both eminently sensible and fair. The parties are to be congratulated on the constructive manner in which this matter has been progressed.

[3] Pursuant to s.31(3) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984 I hereby order that the Police Association of Tasmania lodge an application to vary the Police Award in a manner which reflects the position referred to above.
