REASONS FOR DECISION
[1] On 3 April 2007, the Australian Education Union, Tasmanian Branch (AEU) and the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000 lodged with the Registrar, pursuant to Section 55(2) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, The Adult Education Agreement 2007.
[2] When this matter came on for hearing on 19 April 2007, Mr A Muthy appeared for the AEU and Mr P Cleaver appeared for the Minister.
[3] Mr Muthy explained the background to this agreement and said that the AEU was satisfied that employees would not be disadvantaged as a consequence.
[4] Mr Cleaver concurred with the submissions of Mr Muthy.
[5] I am satisfied that the agreement is consistent with both the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act, and does not disadvantage the employees concerned.
[6] Pursuant to s.55(4) of the Act, the agreement is approved operative from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 21 March 2007 and shall remain in force until 30 June 2008.
