DEPUTY PRESIDENT TIM ABEY

Industrial agreement – application approved – operative date 1/3/12 until 28/2/14 – forwarded to Registrar for registration

DECISION

[1] On 16 August 2012, the Minister administering the State Service Act 2000 (MASSA) and the Australian Education Union, Tasmanian Branch, (AEU), lodged with the Registrar, pursuant to Section 55(2) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, the Polytechnic and Skills Institute Teaching Staff Industrial Agreement 2012.

[2] At a hearing in Hobart on 21 August 2012, Mr P Mazengarb appeared for MASSA.  Ms R Madsen appeared for AEU.

[3] Mr Mazengarb explained that this agreement replaces the Polytechnic and Skills Institute Teaching Staff Industrial Agreement 2011 .

[4] The agreement provides for 2% salary increase from 1 March 2012 with a further 2% increase from 1 March 2013.

[5] In consenting to the agreement Ms Madsen noted that an internal ballot of members covered had overwhelmingly supported the agreement.

[6] I am satisfied that the agreement is consistent with the public interest requirements of the Act, and does not disadvantage the employees concerned.

[7] Pursuant to s55(4) the agreement is approved operative from 1 March 2012 and shall remain in force until 28 February 2014.
