Award variation - union name change - application approved

REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 23 March 2004 an application was lodged by the Australian Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union - Tasmanian Branch, pursuant to Section 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Aerated Waters Award, the Automotive Industries Award, the Baking Industry Award, the Child Care and Childrens Services Award, the Cleaning and Property Services Award, the Fibreglass and Plastics Award, the Group Training Industry Award, the Hairdressing, Health and Beauty Industry Award, the Health and Fitness Centres Award, the Hotels, Resorts, Hospitality and Motels Award, the Ice Cream Makers Award, the Independent Schools (Non Teaching Staff) Award, the Laundry and Dry Cleaning Award, the Leather Canvas and Sheet Plastic Fabrication Award, the Licensed Clubs Award, the Miscellaneous Workers Award, the Miscellaneous Workers (Public Sector) Award, the National Training Wage (Tasmanian Private Sector) Award, the Restaurant Keepers Award, the Retail Trades Award, the Security Industry Award, the Shipping Award, the Veterinary Services Award, and the Wholesale Plant Bakeries Award.

[2] Mr P Tullgren appeared on behalf of the Australian Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union - Tasmanian Branch (ALHMWU) and submitted that this application was to change the name of the union from ALHMWU to Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union (LHMU). He further submitted that this application was consequent upon a decision by Vice President Ross of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission made on 27 February 2004 in print PR944160.

[3] In due course members of the Commission will issue orders, in their respective areas of responsibility, giving effect to this decision.
