ELECTROLYTIC ZINC AWARD

COMMISSIONER R.K. GOZZI

HOBART, 19 September 1991

State Wage Case August 1991 - 2.5% increase - granted

REASONS FOR DECISION

These applications respectively filed by the Electrical Trades Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch; The Federated Engine Drivers' and Firemen's Association of Australasia, Tasmanian Branch; The Federation of Industrial Manufacturing and Engineering Employees, Tasmania Branch; The Building Workers' Industrial Union of Australia (Tasmanian Branch); and The Operative Painters and Decorators' Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch, sought the variation of the Electrolytic Zinc Award to reflect a 2.5% increase in wage rates and work-related allowances in accordance with the 13 August 1991 State Wage Case1 decision.

The parties satisfied the Commission that the pre-conditions for the granting of the increase had been met. In that context agreement was reached between the parties in the course of the proceedings for the inclusion in the award of consultative mechanisms and work as directed provisions. With the inclusion of those award clauses all of the requirements of paragraphs (a) to (g) of Principle 2 - Structural Efficiency have been appropriately addressed.

In addition there are a number of outstanding structural efficiency matters that require finalisation. These will be considered by the Commission in matter T.2692 of 1990, which was the vehicle for the granting of the second instalment structural efficiency adjustment. The outcome of these further proceedings are not an impediment to the granting of the increase sought in this current matter.

In the circumstances the award will be varied operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 6 September 1991.

The order which is attached, also includes work as directed provisions in Clause 11, and consultative procedures in Clause 31.
