TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or variation of award

The Salaried Pharmacists' Association
(Tasmania Branch)

(T.4583 of 1993)

CHEMISTS AWARD

DEPUTY PRESIDENT A ROBINSON

HOBART, 21 September 1993

Wage Rates - State Wage November 1989 - second minimum rates adjustment - Group 6 - consent matter - application granted - award varied - first full pay period commencing on or after 1 October 1993

REASONS FOR DECISION

This matter concerns an application by the Salaried Pharmacists' Association, (Tasmania Branch) to vary the Chemists Award by increasing wage rates for those classifications contained in "Group 6" i.e. various pharmacists, students and trainees.

The increases sought represent the second of three steps to phase-in agreed structural efficiency changes as part of a realignment of wage relativities and the creation of new career paths for the pharmacy professions. The relativities concerned recognise 100% as being $417.20 per week which is the current wage rate applicable to a base tradesmen employed in the metal industry, and this approach is consistent with current wage fixing principles previously endorsed by this Commission.

The matter was one of consent and I am satisfied that to grant the application would not offend public interest requirements of the Act.

During conference proceedings a number of errors in the award were identified and it was agreed that these would be made the subject of a correction order.

Accordingly it is my decision that the award will be varied to give effect to each of the agreed matters.

Date of Operation

This variation shall come into operation from the beginning of the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 October, 1993.

Orders giving effect to this decision are to be prepared by the parties.
