On 2 January 1987 the Police Association of Tasmania lodged with the Commission an application to vary the kilometreage allowance in the Police Award. The application sought to adjust the rates, in accordance with the formula established in Matter T.33 of 1985, to take into account the C.P.I. adjusted variations for the six months ending 30 September 1986.

The matter came before the Commission on 23 January 1987.

In addressing the application, Mr. Philp, who appeared for the Police Association, submitted that the following rates should now be inserted in Clause 23.2 of the Police Award.

Cents per Kilometre

Rate A
2 litres
and above
(inc.rotary
engines)

Rate B
Less than
2 litres

First 10,000 kilometres

24.14

20.76

Any additional kilometres

12.79

11.10

The claimed variation, he submitted, would be in accordance with Principle 9(a)(i) of the Commission's wage fixation Principles.

Mr. Ames, representing the Commissioner of Police, expressed no opposition to variation of the award in the manner requested. Both Mr. Philp and Mr. Ames requested an operative date of 24 December 1986.

As the rates claimed are those which have been prescribed in the General Conditions of Service Award consequent on the decision in Matter T.615 of 1986, the application to vary the award in accordance with this application is granted.

Operative date of the order to issue will be the beginning of the first pay period commencing on or after 24 December 1986.
