IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984

T.1188 of 1988

IN THE MATTER OF AN APPLICATION BY THE AMBULANCE EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION OF TASMANIA TO VARY THE TASMANIAN AMBULANCE SERVICE AWARD

RE: DEFINITIONS

COMMISSIONER R.K. GOZZI

HOBART, 31 March 1988

REASONS FOR DECISION

APPEARANCES:

For the Ambulance Employees' Association of Tasmania

- Mr P Nielsen with
  Mr R Doddridge

For the Minister for Public Administration

- Mr C. Shirley with
  Mr M. Watson

DATE AND PLACE OF HEARING:

21 March 1988 Hobart

This consent application seeks to delete from the Tasmanian Ambulance Service Award references to minimum length of service as a prerequisite to being eligible for consideration for appointments to certain designated classifications specified in the award.

The years of service consideration has been replaced by reference to 'appropriate knowledge, skills and experience'.

The variations give effect to the merit principle contained in Section 4 of the Tasmanian State Service Act 1984.

The variations as requested, are endorsed. It is to be noted that the deletions agreed to do not in any way impinge on the requirement for ambulance officers to hold the Advanced Life Support qualification.

My order, operative from the date of this decision, is attached.

R.K. Gozzi
COMMISSIONER
