T1353

IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984

T.1353 of 1988

IN THE MATTER OF AN APPLICATION BY THE AMBULANCE EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION OF TASMANIA TO VARY THE TASMANIAN AMBULANCE SERVICE AWARD

RE: KILOMETREAGE ALLOWANCE

COMMISSIONER R.K. GOZZI

HOBART, 25 May 1988

REASONS FOR DECISION

APPEARANCES:

For the Ambulance Employees' Association of Tasmania

- Mr P Nielsen

For the Minister for Public Administration

- Mr M. Stevens

DATE AND PLACE OF HEARING:

23 May 1988 Hobart

This application by the Ambulance Employees' Association of Tasmania to vary subclause 9(e) - Kilometreage Allowance, of the Tasmanian Ambulance Service Award by 11.96% was earlier before the Commission in matter T.1296 of 1988.

At that time kilometreage allowance was not increased as the parties were to consider the method of adjustment, represented in this case by movement in the 8 Capitals CPI for the period 1 January 1986 to 31 March 1987, compared to that relied upon for varying this allowance in the General Conditions of Service Award.

In these latest proceedings Mr Stevens supported Mr Nielsen's submissions that the allowance be increased by 11.96% in the same way that the Commission, as variously constituted in similar matters, has adjusted expense related allowances generally.

Mr Stevens proposed that the method of adjustment should form part of an overall review of the award at a later date.

I have decided to accept that submission. Accordingly, kilometreage allowance will be moved upwards by 11.96% operative from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 24 May 1988.

My order is attached hereto.
