IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984

T.1486 of 1988

IN THE MATTER OF AN APPLICATION BY THE POLICE ASSOCIATION OF TASMANIA TO VARY THE POLICE AWARD

RE: EXPENSE RELATED ALLOWANCES

COMMISSIONER J G KING

15 September 1988

REASONS FOR DECISION

APPEARANCES:

For the Police Association of Tasmania

- Mr G. McDermott

For the Minister of Police

- Inspector R.S. Ames

DATE AND PLACE OF HEARING:

2 September 1988  Hobart

This application seeks to vary the Police Award (the Award) by increasing all expense related allowances by 6.86%. The claim follows a decision of a Full Bench of this Commission1 determining a similar application to vary the Conditions of Service Award. The decision dated 24 August 1988, increased all expense related allowances in that award, having general application to public sector employees, by 6.86%.

Mr McDermott in speaking to the application satisfied me that each of the allowances contained in the application are indeed expense related. In those circumstances, I see this application as seeking to do no more than update allowances in accordance with the Wage Fixing Principles and a decision of a Full Bench of this Commission, going to the merit.

The application is therefore granted from the date agreed by the parties, i.e. the first pay period commencing on or after 1 September 1988.

An appropriate order varying the Award is attached.

J.G. King
