IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984

T.1642 of 1988

IN THE MATTER OF AN APPLICATION BY THE TASMANIAN TASMANIAN PUBLIC SERVICE ASSOCIATION TO VARY THE TOURISM TASMANIA AWARD

RE: DEFINITONS AND ALLOWANCES

COMMISSIONER R. K. GOZZI

HOBART, 22 November 1988

REASONS FOR DECISION

APPEARANCES:

For the Minister for Public Administration

- Mr M. Jarman with
  Mr M. Reed and
  Mr G. Burgess

For the Tasmanian Public Service Association

- Mr N. Buchanan

DATE AND PLACE OF HEARING:

26 October 1988 Hobart

This application by the Tasmanian Public Service Association (the Association) sought the deletion of Travel Consultant and Trainee Travel Consultant classifications from the Tourism Tasmania Staff Award.

In lieu of those particular classifications the Association is seeking the inclusion in the award of Travel Consultant Level 1 and Travel Consultant Level 2.

No change in definition or salary is contemplated by the proposed alteration in titles.

Whilst I am reluctant to alter an award only just made (29 April 1988) it appears from the submissions of the parties that the proposed titles are already in use, informally.

In the circumstances and given that the award was made to enable greater flexibility for employees and to facilitate a structure more compatible with the private sector, I have decided to accede to the variation.

My order, operative from the date of this decision is attached hereto.

That leaves the matter of the "Overtime Compensation Allowance".

Having regard to my comments on transcript, and the intention of the parties to discuss this matter along with other conditions under negotiation, I have decided to close the file in respect of that part of the application.

Obviously either party will be at liberty, pending the outcome of the discussions referred to above, to make a fresh application on this issue at any time.
