T1703 - (7.11.99)
IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act 1984
This consent matter concerned the deletion of the Contract Officer and State Relief Officer classifications from the Tasmanian Ambulance Service Award. These particular classifications are no longer required as alternative arrangements to staff the previously designated Contract Stations at Campbell Town and Zeehan will be put in place consequential to the issue of this decision. That is Branch Officers will be appointed at the above two locations in accordance with the award, in lieu of contract officers. This will be a more economic arrangement and will also obviate the current relieving arrangements undertaken by the State Relief Officers. In the case of State Relief Officers they will be reassigned in accordance with Clause 26 of the award. In respect of Contract Officers, the Zeehan Ambulance Station position is currently vacant and therefore this decision does not impact on any current incumbent. The Campbell Town Contract Officer, I am informed, will be appointed to Branch Officer status as provided for by Section 36 (1) (b) of the Tasmanian State Service Act 1984 (the Act). Appointments made in this manner are subject to appeal, as set out in Section 66 (1) (b) of the Act. Against this background I now confirm the decision given in transcript to delete the aforementioned classifications from the award. All consequential variations to Clause 7 Definitions and 8 - Salaries will also be made. The Order is attached hereto.
