IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984

T.1709 of 1988

IN THE MATTER OF AN APPLICATION BY THE POLICE ASSOCIATION OF TASMANIA TO VARY THE POLICE AWARD

RE: KILOMETREAGE ALLOWANCE

COMMISSIONER J G KING

HOBART, 6 January 1989

REASONS FOR DECISION

APPEARANCES:

For the Police Association of Tasmania

- Mr G. Philp

For the Commissioner of Police

- Inspector R. Ames

DATE AND PLACE OF HEARING:

20 December 1988 Hobart

This application seeks a variation to the Police Award (the Award) to reflect updated rates for kilometreage allowances paid to officers required to use their private vehicles.

The new rates sought are consistent with those contained in the General Conditions of Service Award for the "Occasional User Category" only, recently updated in T.1713 of 1988.

The Commissioner of Police consented to the variation, including' the date of operation of the first full pay period commencing on or after 26 October 1988.

The variation is consistent with the requirements of the Wage Fixation Principles and the long established history of such movements in the Award.

The application is therefore granted.

An appropriate order varying the kilometreage allowances contained in the Award is attached.
