5 October 1989             Hobart

This matter concerns an application by the Tasmanian Confederation of Industries (TCI) to vary existing occupational superannuation provisions so as to grant to the religious fellowship known as Brethren, the right to contribute to an alternative superannuation fund.

The proposal is qualified to the extent that any alternative superannuation fund must be a scheme approved in accordance with the Commonwealth Operational Standards for Occupational Superannuation Funds, and the Brethren must hold a certificate issued under an Act.

As this is a consent matter which already is established by earlier precedents and does not offend either public interest or Wage Fixation Principles the application is granted in the terms sought.

OPERATIVE DATE: 1 June 1989.

The order concerning details of the award variations is attached.

A Robinson
DEPUTY PRESIDENT
