- Mr P E Targett

For the Tasmanian Hairdressers
Association and

DATE AND PLACE OF HEARING:

24.04.90                       Hobart

This matter concerns an application by the Australian Hairdressers, Wigmakers and Hairworkers Employees Federation for the making of provision for occupational superannuation in the Hairdressers Award.

The application is one of final consent, following the Commission's receipt of notification from the Tasmanian Confederation of Industries that a meeting of the Tasmanian Hairdressers Association endorsed its own view that the proposal put forward as Exhibit T.1 was acceptable.

Like so many similar applications before it, the present proposal is limited to requiring employers to make a contribution for equivalent to 3% of ordinary time earnings into an approved superannuation fund. Save for special exemption provisions, contributions are to be made to the fund known as TASPLAN.

After studying the draft proposal presented by the parties concerned in this matter, I am satisfied that both public interest requirements pursuant to Section 36 of the Act, and the criteria established by the Wage Fixation Principles have been met.

Accordingly I have decided to approve the application in the form set out in Exhibit T.1.

OPERATIVE DATE:

The terms of the proposal which I have accepted include a provision that contributions by employers into the fund concerned are payable as from 1 June 1990. However, the award variation as a whole shall have effect from the 8th day of May 1990.

ORDER:

The order is attached.

A. Robinson
DEPUTY PRESIDENT

8 May 1990
