IN THE TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984

T2426, 2427 & 2432 of 1990 IN THE MATTER OF APPLICATIONS BY THE FEDERATED CLERKS UNION OF AUSTRALIA, TASMANIAN BRANCH TO VARY THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS AWARD; THE FURNISHING TRADES AWARD AND THE RUBBER TRADES AWARD RESPECTIVELY

  RE: TRAINEESHIPS

COMMISSIONER R.J. WATLING HOBART, 3 July 1990

REASONS FOR DECISION

APPEARANCES:

For the Federated Clerks Union
of Australia, Tasmanian Branch
- Mr. A. Grubb

For the Tasmanian Confederation
of Industries
- Mr. S. Clues
  with Mr. R. Murray

DATE AND PLACE OF HEARING:

3 July 1990              Hobart

These applications, made by the Federated Clerks Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch, were for the purpose of including in the Electrical Engineers Award; the Furnishing Trades Award and the Rubber Trades Award respectively a provision for `Trainee Clerk' employed under the terms of the Australian Traineeship System.

The parties presented an agreed position on:

(a) the need for the new classification;

(b) the definition of `Trainee Clerk';

(c) the method of calculating the minimum weekly wage rate; and

(d) the agreed conditions of employment.

I indicated to the parties at the conclusion of the hearing I endorsed their submissions and granted the claims.

In confirming that position, I am satisfied the applications do not violate the Wage Fixation Principles nor the public interest requirements of the Act.

In granting these applications, I am mindful of the fact that a number of 'Trainee' classifications under the Australian Traineeship System have been inserted in awards of the Commission and nothing has been put to me in this matter that would cause me to depart from that which has already been established in earlier decisions of the Commission.

The Orders giving effect to this decision are attached with an operative date from the beginning of the first full pay period commencing on or after 3 July 1990.
