REASONS FOR DECISION

This was an application for exemptions from contributing to the superannuation fund nominated in the Carriers Award, the TWU Superannuation Fund. The application was made by the Tasmanian Confederation of Industries (the Confederation).

Mr S Clues, who appeared for the Confederation, confirmed the details of the exemptions sought by companies that had been contributing to other "authorised" funds prior to 1 October 1990 as follows:

Company

Alternate Fund

Atkins Removals and Storage Pty Ltd
Price's Removals and Storage Pty Ltd
L. R. Removals (Tasmania) Pty Ltd
John Hedley Atkins

Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce Industry   Super Fund

CSR Employees Retirement Fund

Mr Clues further advised that agreement had been reached between the parties on the exemptions and the removal of the present temporary exemption clause in the Award. He sought the deletion and the amendment to the Award.

Messrs B Hansch and J Long respectively representing the Transport Workers' Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch and the Australasian Society of Engineers, Tasmanian Branch both confirmed the agreement between the parties and supported the Confederation's submissions.

As indicated at the hearing I endorse the agreement between the parties and the Award will be amended as sought.

An order operative from the date of this decision is attached.
