COMMISSIONER R J WATLING

7 March 1991

Alleged Intimidation and Breach of the Poultry Game and Marine Products Award

REASONS FOR DECISION

This application, pursuant to Section 29 (1) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, was made by the Food Preservers Union of Australia, Tasmania Branch (the union) in an endeavour to settle a dispute between the union and Petuna Seafoods, 134 Tarleton Street, East Devonport, (the employer).

The dispute centred around the alleged intimidation of certain employees during and after a meeting conducted by the union in an endeavour to gain members as well as alleged breaches of the Poultry, Game and Marine Products Award.

Mr Treharne, for the union, presented detailed submissions on the issues in dispute. After presenting preliminary submissions in response, Mr Fitzgerald of the Tasmanian Confederation of Industries, representing the employer, requested that the hearing adjourn into conference under the Chairmanship of the Commission.

During the course of the conference, understandings were reached on the issues in dispute. These were placed on transcript.

As the dispute for which the application was made has now been resolved I close the file on this matter.
