TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act 1984 The Minister Administering the Tasmanian State Service Act GENERAL CONDITIONS OF SERVICE AWARD
Board and Lodging rates REASONS FOR DECISION This matter concerns an application by the Minister Administering the Tasmanian State Service Act, 1984, to vary the General Conditions of Service Award in relation to amounts which may be deducted from employee's wages where board and/or lodging is provided at a State hospital, home or institution. The proposed increase follows the handing down of an earlier decision of a Full Bench1 of this Commission which dealt only with meal charges in the same areas of public sector employment. In that particular matter the Full Bench's decision was to increase meal charges, phased in over a period of approximately 18 months. The present application reflects those earlier increases to the extent that meal charges equate with the expression "board" when it is provided; either with or without "lodging". As with the earlier matter, the application is one of consent. In all of the circumstances I am satisfied that the adjustment of a cost related charge in the manner proposed is allowable in accordance with the Wage Fixation Principles of this Commission, equity, and consideration of public interest criteria required by Section 36 of the Act. For these reasons the application is granted. Operative date The first variation shall have effect from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 6 June 1991 with subsequent increases from the first pay periods commencing on or after 6 November 1991 and 6 November 1992. Order is attached.
