Expense-related allowances

REASONS FOR DECISION

This matter concerns an application by the Tasmanian Public Service Association to vary a range of expense-related allowances including the following:

Board and Lodgings
Compensation
District
Meal
Sea Victualling
Tool
Training Courses and Conferences
Travelling
Uniforms

The application relates to nine separate awards, i.e.:

General Conditions of Service
Hospital Employees (Public Hospitals)
Inland Fisheries Commission Staff
North West Regional Water Authority Employees
Police Departmental Employees and Road Safety Officers
Sea Fisheries Staff
Social Trainers
Port Arthur Authority
School Dental Therapists

The matter is one of consent and follows a pattern of regular adjustments from time to time in the past.

The variations sought are also in conformity with an earlier decision of the Commission in matter T.833 of 1987, and are based upon published movements in the Consumer Price Index (catalogue 6401.8).

Given the consent of the parties; historical factors going to the Commission's earlier acceptance; and compliance with the Wage Fixation Principles, I accept that proper grounds for the granting of the claim have been established.

I also conclude that to grant the variations sought would be consistent with the public interest.

For all of these reasons the claim is granted and it is my decision that the nominated awards be varied in the manner sought and detailed in Exhibit TPSA1.

Date of Effect

All variations shall have effect from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 14 June 1991.

Orders shall be completed by individual Commission members.
