TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or variation of award

Tasmanian Teachers Federation
(T.3110 of 1991)

TEACHING SERVICE (TEACHING STAFF) AWARD

DEPUTY PRESIDENT A. ROBINSON

HOBART 17 June 1991

District Allowances

REASONS FOR DECISION

This matter concerns an application by the Tasmanian Teachers Federation to vary the Teaching Service (Teaching Staff) Award by increasing the "district allowance" contained in Clause 9(b) of that award.

The variation sought is one of consent and follows Consumer Price Index movement occurring since the previous adjustment.

Reliance is also placed upon Commission decision T.883 of 1987.

Since this is an expense-related allowance to compensate for excess costs necessarily incurred by an employee in an "isolated area" it may be adjusted from time to time in accordance with that part of the Wage Fixation Principles dealing with allowances.

I am also satisfied that to grant the increase sought is consistent with public interest requirements of Section 36 of the Act.

For these reasons I have decided to vary the award in the manner sought.

Date of Effect

This variation shall have effect from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 14 June 1991.

Order is attached.
