ABATTOIRS AWARD

COMMISSIONER R K GOZZI

REASONS FOR DECISION

In this consent matter the Meat and Allied Trades Federation of Australia, (Tasmanian Division) and The Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union, Tasmanian Branch sought the variation of the Abattoirs Award to reflect composite piecework slaughtering rates for the Devonport City Abattoir (the Abattoir).

The issue arose consequential to the upgrading of the Abattoir by the introduction of on rail mechanised slaughtering for sheep and some mechanical assistance on the beef slaughtering floor. The award currently provides in Appendix I composite pieceworking arrangements and what is now proposed is to vary that appendix to reflect the mechanical improvements that have been made.

The variation is endorsed by the Commission operative on and from 26 August 1991.

The order will issue in due course.
