TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or variation of award

Metals and Engineering Workers' Union
(T.3329 of 1991)

DRAUGHTING AND TECHNICAL OFFICERS (PRIVATE INDUSTRY) AWARD

COMMISSIONER R.K. GOZZI

HOBART, 24 September 1991

State Wage Case August 1991 - 2.5% increase - granted

REASONS FOR DECISION

This matter by the Metals and Engineering Workers' Union (MEWU) was for the variation of the Draughting and Technical Officers Award to reflect the 2.5 per cent increase in wage rates and work-related allowances in accordance with the 13 August 1991 State Wage Case decision(1).

Mr Baker for the MEWU supported by Mr Clues appearing for the Tasmanian Confederation of Industries contended that the requirements of Principle 2 - Structural Efficiency paragraphs (a) to (g) had been satisfied in this award. In that regard I noted that the second instalment structural efficiency adjustment was awarded by the Commission in matter T.2315 of 1990 and that as a consequence the award was varied to reflect initiatives set out as pre-conditions for the 2.5 per cent increase in the revised Structural Efficiency Principle.

In the circumstances the award will be varied in the manner requested operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 3 September 1991.

The order is attached.
