(T.3436 of 1991)

and

WATCHMAKERS AWARD

COMMISSIONER R K GOZZI

HOBART, 18 October 1991

Rescission of an award

REASONS FOR DECISIONS

In this matter the Metals and Engineering Workers' Union (MEWU) requested the rescission of the Watchmakers Award pursuant to Section 32 (7) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984. I was informed by Mr Baker for the MEWU that the award only had application to the classifications of Watchmaker, Clock Maker and Repairer of Jewellery. Mr Baker submitted that those classifications are intended to be incorporated in the Metals and Engineering Award in proceedings to be held in the Commission later this year.

Mr Long and Mr Clues for the Federation of Industrial, Manufacturing and Engineering Employees, Tasmanian Branch and the Tasmanian Confederation of Industries, respectively supported the rescission of the award.

I support the submissions of the parties and accordingly the award will be rescinded consequential to the inclusion of the above specified classifications in the Metals and Engineering Award, if and when made.

An order will issue in due course.
