TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act 1984 Tasmanian Confederation of Industries MARINE BOARDS AWARD
Clerical and Administrative Employees REASONS FOR DECISION This matter concerns an application by the Tasmanian Confederation of Industries to vary the Marine Boards Award by introducing a new set of definitions and a grading structure in respect of clerical and administrative employees. The objective is to provide an improved career structure and to facilitate skill acquisition consistent with the broad thrust of the Structural Efficiency Principle. Whilst the matter is one of consent at this time following lengthy negotiations, the outcome represents a compromise situation. And accordingly the Federated Clerks Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch (FCU) regards the present settlement as interim and without prejudice pending the outcome of certain other proceedings. Rates of pay put forward in the present application do not represent an increase for current employees unless some individual re classification could be found to be justified on proper criteria. The parties have also recorded their understanding that no employee will suffer a reduction in wages as a result of the adoption of the present proposal. The parties are also committed to ongoing discussions. Since the application is consistent with the requirements of the Wage Fixation Principles and does not offend public interest criteria the application is granted and the award will be varied accordingly. DATE OF EFFECT This variation shall have effect from the first full pay period to commence on or after 27 November 1991. Order is attached.
