REASONS FOR DECISION

This application was lodged by the Tasmanian Confederation of Industries (TCI), for the purpose of varying the Furnishing Trades Award, to include a new classification for the position of `Trainee Upholstery/Sewing Machinist or Soft Furnishings' (the trainee).

Included in the application was special conditions pertaining to the new classification. The trainee would be employed under this award within the terms of the Australian Traineeship System.

All parties requested the Commission to adopt the proposals as outlined in the application.

I am satisfied that this consent matter is consistent with the Wage Fixing Principles and the Public Interest requirements of the Act. Therefore the award will be varied in the manner sought by the applicant.

The Order giving effect to this decision is attached and will be operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 21 April 1993.
