TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act 1984 The Tasmanian Public Service Association
Award variation - Mainland allowances. REASONS FOR DECISION In this matter The Tasmanian Public Service Association (TPSA) sought the variation of the Tourism Tasmania Staff Award to reflect adjustments to Clause 16 - Mainland Allowance consequential to the publication of rental market information by the Real Estate Institute of Australia. The methodology for calculating mainland allowances has been set out by the Commission in earlier decisions the most recent of which was the decision in T.3646 of 1992. Accordingly I do not intend to repeat the formula here. Suffice to say that the adjustments requested to be made on this occasion are by consent and are based on the existing methodology having regard to differentials in average median rental costs in mainland capital cities compared to those costs in Hobart. Having regard to the fact that the requested variations are in accordance with specific award provisions contained in subclause 16(a)(ii) and that they are consistent with the Allowances Wage Fixing Principle in respect of the reimbursement of expenses incurred, they are endorsed operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 25 August 1993. The Order is attached.
