METAL AND ENGINEERING INDUSTRY AWARD

COMMISSIONER R J WATLING

HOBART, 16 November 1993

Wage rates - State Wage Case Nov 1989 - Third minimum rates adjustment - clerical classifications - consent matter - award varied - ffpp 1 December 1993

REASONS FOR DECISION

This application was lodged by the Australian, Municipal, Administrative, Clerical and Services Union for the purpose of varying certain classifications in the Metal and Engineering Industry Award in order to reflect the third minimum rates adjustment.

The specific wage levels to be varied by the application are as follows:

Wage Group Level Classification Title Relativity
Level 1 Clerk Adult Entry Point 78%
Level 4 Clerical Assistant Grade 1 90
Level 6 Clerical Officer Grade 2 95%
Level 7 Clerical Officer Grade 3 100%
Level 8 Clerical Officer Grade 4 105%
Level 9 Administrative Officer Grade 5 110%
Level 11 Administrative Officer Grade 7 120%

When the award was initially made the parties agreed that the minimum rates adjustments for clerical employees would be phased in over 36 months at intervals of nine months apart.

This, the third minimum rates adjustment has the consent of all parties to the award and is endorsed by the Commission as it is in keeping with the restructuring programme for this award and it conforms with the Wage Fixing Principles and the Public Interest requirements of the Act.

The award will be varied in the manner sought by the parties and be operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 1 December 1993.

The Order giving effect to this decision is attached.
