(T.4801 of 1994)

SECURITY INDUSTRY AWARD

COMMISSIONER R.K. GOZZI

HOBART, 17 January 1994

Wage rates - State Wage Case December 1993 - $8.00 increase

REASONS FOR DECISION

In this matter the Australian Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union - Tasmanian Branch (the union) requested the $8.00 a week safety net adjustment determined in the 24 December 1993 State Wage Case to be awarded in the Security Industry Award.

Mr O'Brien, for the union, submitted that the minimum rates adjustment had been completed and that in the opinion of the union industry bargaining in the security industry was more appropriate, having regard to the nature of this industry, than pursuing the objectives of individual or separate enterprise bargaining outcomes. Certainly the application of the award classification structure is being discussed at enterprise level.

Mr Abey, for the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited, consented to the variation having in earlier proceedings raised concerns regarding the formatting of awards with regard to the supplementary payments. As indicated to the parties they should consider raising the general question of award format with the President. It may well be that some variation to the proposed setting out of wage rates in four columns may eventuate and if it does I would make the relevant adjustments subsequently. However in the meantime, whilst I understand the concerns raised by Mr Abey, the format will be as discussed in the hearing. That is four wage columns comprising the Base Rate in one column, Supplementary Payments A and B, and Weekly Wage Rate in each of the other three columns.

Having regard to the submissions of the parties the $8.00 per week safety net adjustment increase is granted operative from the first pay period to commence on or after the date of this decision.

The order will issue in due course.
