Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.23 application for award or variation of award

The Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union,

(T.4821 of 1994)

MEAT TRADES AWARD

COMMISSIONER R.K. GOZZI

HOBART, 24 January 1994

Wage rates - State Wage Case December 1993 - arbitrated safety net adjustment

REASONS FOR DECISION

In this matter The Australasian Meat Industry Employees Union, Tasmanian Branch, sought the variation of the Meat Trades Award to give effect to the $8.00 arbitrated safety net adjustment.

This consent variation is endorsed. The parties satisfied the Commission that progress in award restructuring may be able to be made. In that regard the Commission indicated its willingness to conduct conferences between the parties to facilitate the necessary processes.

Whilst the completion on progress towards finalisation of the structural efficiency and minimum rates adjustment process are not a prerequisite to the granting of the $8.00 increase, it was encouraging for the Commission to hear that steps may be taken to commence an appropriate review of the award. As indicated in the proceedings the taking of those steps will not and indeed should not in any way impede the enterprise agreement negotiations which are apparently under way at this very moment.

The parties are requested to confer on a draft order for presentation to the Commission. The operative date of the order, when issued, will be the first full pay period to commence on or after the date of this decision.
