TRANSPORT WORKERS GENERAL AWARD
COMMISSIONER P A IMLACH |

Wage rates ‑ State Wage Case December 1993 ‑ arbitrated safety net adjustment
REASONS FOR DECISION
This was an application made by the Transport Workers' Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch (the Union) for the $8 arbitrated safety net adjustment, determined by a full bench of the Commission in the State Wage decision dated 24 December 19931 to be implemented in the Transport Workers General Award (the Award).
The Union sought the $8 increase and in so doing pointed out to the Commission that the Award had already been the subject of restructuring under the Structural Efficiency Principle and there had been some discussions between the parties as to enterprise agreements, but with no result to date.
The Union also outlined some small additional amendments deleting unnecessary and anomalous references in the Award which were included in the draft order previously prepared and produced at the hearing.
The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited (the Chamber) supported the Union's application and said it was not against the public interest.
I am satisfied that this application fulfils the requirements of the Commission's Guidelines; the Award will be amended as sought operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after the date of this decision.
An order will be issued in due course.
