Wage rates - State Wage Case December 1993 - arbitrated safety net adjustment

REASONS FOR DECISION

In this matter the Automotive Metals and Engineering Union (AMEU) sought the variation of the Draughting and Technical Officers (Private Industry) Award to give effect to the $8.00 arbitrated safety net adjustment determined by the Full Bench in the 24 December 1993 State Wage Case decision.

Mr Baker for the AMEU submitted that the award had undergone a structural efficiency review and that the minimum rates adjustment process was finalised. He indicated that in respect of enterprise bargaining some discussions were held with employers. Mr Baker said these would be ongoing over the next eighteen months or so. Mr Baker also referred to the facilitative provisions contained in the award which he said allowed employers to implement flexible working arrangements. The variation was supported by Mr Clues for the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited.

In all of the circumstances the award will be varied in the manner requested operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after the date of this decision.
