COMMISSIONER P A IMLACH

14 February 1994

Wage rates - State Wage Case December 1993 - arbitrated safety net adjustment

REASONS FOR DECISION

These two matters were joined for hearing: they were applications by The AWU-FIME Amalgamated Union, Tasmania Branch (the AWU-FIME) and the Australian Municipal, Administrative, Clerical and Services Union (the AMACSU) for the for the $8 arbitrated safety net adjustment, determined by a full bench of the Commission in the State Wage decision dated 24 December 19931 to be implemented in the Optical Industries Award (the Award).

The unions produced a draft order and confirmed that the Structural Efficiency process had commenced in the Award, but, to date no enterprise agreements had been settled. It as also noted that the percentage relativities between the base rates of the classifications in the Award had been agreed between the parties, but, they would not be correctly related until the completion of the Minimum Rates Adjustment process.

The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited agreed to the applications and the draft order and said that they were not against the public interest.

The applications are in accordance with the State Wage Case decision and are granted operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after the date of this decision.

An order is attached.
