Award variation - expense-related allowances REASONS FOR DECISION In this matter the Health Services Union of Australia, Tasmania No. 1 Branch, made application to vary the Tasmanian Ambulance Award to adjust expense-related allowances by movements in the consumer price index (weighted average of eight capital cities) for the period March 1992 to March 1994. The actual movements in the index was 1.2 percent for the quarter ending March 1993 and 1.4 percent for the quarter ending March 1994. Those percentages were applied on a cumulative basis on the following allowances found in Clause 9 of the award:
The variation sought was supported by the Minister administering the Tasmanian State Service Act 1984. Having regard to the Allowances Wage Fixing Principle, paragraph 1, set out in the State Wage Case decision of 24 December 1993 (T.4692 of 1993) the allowances in question will be varied in the manner requested operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 21 November 1994.
