HORTICULTURISTS AWARD

COMMISSIONER R K GOZZI

HOBART, 30 May 1995

Award variation - traineeships

REASONS FOR DECISION

In this matter The AWU-FIME Amalgamated Union, Tasmania Branch (AWU-FIME) sought the variation of the Horticulturists Award to include Career Start Traineeship provisions. The purpose of a Career Start Traineeship was outlined in Exhibit AWU-FIME 2 in the following terms:

"(c)  The purpose of a Career Start Traineeship is to provide vocational training consistent with the needs of industry and general skills appropriate to the workforce, and to enhance the skill levels and future employment prospects of Career Start Trainees. This is to be achieved through various vocational education and training pathways including a combination of work, education and structured training."

The inclusion of Career Start Traineeship provisions in the award was supported by a draft order Exhibit AWU-FIME 1.

Having regard to the submissions of Mr Cooper appearing for AWU-FIME and given no other parties to the award attended the proceedings, the variation is endorsed operative from 7 June 1995.

The order is attached.
