COMMISSIONER R J WATLING

HOBART, 27 November 1995

Award variation - second $8 safety net adjustment - consent matters - applications granted - awards varied - operative ffpp 24 November 1995

REASONS FOR FURTHER DECISION

This application was lodged by the Transport Workers' Union of Australia, Tasmanian Branch (the applicant) for the purpose of varying the Transport Workers General Award and the Carriers Award in relation to wage rates to include the second $8 safety net adjustment, as provided for by the December 1994 State Wage Case decision1, along with increases in work-related allowances.

These applications came before the Commission as consent matters.

The awards will be varied in the manner sought by the parties as -

(a) the awards have been varied for the first $8 arbitrated safety net adjustment;

(b) it is more than 6 months since the granting of the first $8 safety net adjustment provided for in the Wage Fixing Principles.

The applications generally comply with the Wage Fixing Principles and they meet the public interest requirements of the Act.

The variations will be operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 24 November 1995

The orders giving effect to this decision are attached.
