TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION Industrial Relations Act 1984 Automotive, Food, Metals, Engineering, SHIPBUILDERS AWARD
Award variation - 3rd MRA - 2nd SNA - increase allowances - approved - operative 9 July 96 REASONS FOR DECISION This was an application by the Automotive, Food, Metals, Engineering, Printing and Kindred Industries Union for a variation to be made to the Shipbuilders Award (the Award). The Metals Union sought the implementation of the third Minimum Rates Adjustment (MRA) in the Award plus the second Safety Net Adjustment (SNA) including appropriate increases for allowances and special rates, all in accordance with the Principles of the Commission. The Commission was advised that the third MRA followed the commencement of the award re-structuring and MRA process in matters T5574 and T5576 of 1995. In the MRA process for the Award six steps were agreed hence three more MRA payments are yet to be sought and implemented (separately). In seeking the second SNA the Metals Union advised the Commission that extensive re-structuring had already taken place in the Award and more was in hand. The Metals Union requested that the variation sought be made operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 9 July 1996. The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union, Tasmanian Branch supported the application. The Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Limited advised the Commission that it had no objections to the application nor the date of operation requested, subject to agreement on the details of the draft order. I am satisfied that the application is in accordance with the Guidelines of the Commission and its approval is not against the public interest. The application is approved operative from the first full pay period to commence on or after 9 July 1996. An order is attached.
