TASMANIAN INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION

Industrial Relations Act 1984
s.67(2) application for approval to alter rules

The Tasmanian Registered Teachers' Association
(TR.468 of 1996)

REGISTRAR Q.H. JAMES

HOBART, 14 March 1996

Rule change - application to alter eligibility rules

REASONS FOR DECISION

This application was lodged by The Tasmanian Registered Teachers' Association pursuant to Section 67(2) of the Industrial Relations Act 1984 and sought approval to effect an alteration to its membership rule to make it consistent with the provisions of the Education Act 1994 which no longer requires the registration of teachers in registered schools in Tasmania.

The change sought only to delete the word "registered" in its reference to teachers and did not in any way effect a change in the persons eligible to be members of the organisation.

I have consulted with the other registered teacher organisations in this State in relation to the application who have no objection to it being approved.

The application is hereby approved and the altered rule will appear as follows:

"MEMBERSHIP

Any teacher employed in a registered school is eligible for membership, except for persons employed in Catholic Schools and/or Catholic Education in Tasmania."
