POLICE AWARD

COMMISSIONER T J ABEY

HOBART, 13 September 2002

Award variation - expense related allowances - application approved - award varied - operative date ffpp 13 September 2002

REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 19 August 2002 an application was lodged by the Police Association of Tasmania (PAT), pursuant to Section 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Police Award.

[2] When this matter came on for hearing at 9.30am Friday 13 September 2002, Ms A Bradford appeared for the PAT and Ms J Henley appeared for the Commissioner of Police.

[3] Ms Bradford explained that the application sought to vary expense related allowances in the Award in line with changes in the Consumer Price Index [weighted Average of 8 Capital Cities] between the March quarter 2001 and the March quarter 2002. This amounted to an increase of 2.94%.

(4] The application was supported by Ms Henley.

(5] I am satisfied that the application is consistent with the Wage Fixing Principles and the Public Interest requirements of the Act.

(6] The application is granted and will operate from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 13 September 2002. The Order giving effect to this decision is attached.
