REASONS FOR DECISION

[1] On 14 May 2003 applications were lodged by The Community and Public Sector Union (State Public Services Federation Tasmania) Inc. (CPSU), pursuant to Section 23 of the Industrial Relations Act 1984, to vary the Sea Fisheries Award, the Police Departmental Employees Award, the General Conditions of Employment Award and the Community and Health Services (Public Sector) Award, with respect to expense related allowances; and the Community and Health Services (Public Sector) Award and the General Conditions of Employment Award with respect to kilometreage allowances.

[2] When these matters came on for hearing on 20 May 2003, Mr R Miller appeared for the CPSU, Mr T Kleyn appeared for the Health Services Union of Australia, Tasmania No. 1 Branch and Mr T Pearce appeared for the Minister.

[3] These applications seek to vary expense related allowances and kilometreage allowances in the respective awards.

[4] The adjustments sought are in accordance with formulae established in earlier Full Bench decisions1. The relevant ABS indices are the CPI All Groups, Weighted Average of eight capital cities and the Transportation, Hobart Private Motoring sub group respectively.

[5] Mr Pearce indicated that the Minister consented to the applications.

[6] I am satisfied that the applications are consistent with both the Wage Fixing Principles and the public interest requirements of the Act.

[7] The applications are granted and awards will be varied operative from the beginning of the first pay period to commence on or after 20 May 2003.

[8] The Orders are attached.
